Statement of the Hydrogen Peroxide Panel Regarding
The Internal Medicinal Use of Hydrogen Peroxide

The Hydrogen Peroxide Panel* (Panel) of the American Chemistry Council (ACC) acknowledges the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warning (P89-18, Released April 13, 1989) against the use of food grade hydrogen peroxide in “Hyper-oxygenation Therapy”. The FDA stated, “there is no proof that either the product or the therapy has any medicinal value.”

Consequently, the member companies of the Panel independently developed policies supporting FDA’s warning against the use of hydrogen peroxide for injection or internal consumption in the body. The Panel recognizes that hydrogen peroxide (including 3% hydrogen peroxide) can be effective for a number of consumer applications when used in accordance with the manufacturer’s use instructions and product safety information.

For additional information, please contact Bill Gulledge, Manager of the Hydrogen Peroxide Panel, at (703) 741-5613.

* Panel members include the major producers of hydrogen peroxide in North America: ARKEMA INC., Degussa Corporation, Eka Chemicals, FMC Corporation, Kemira Chemicals, and Solvay Chemicals.
